Japandroids-Post-Nothing (2009)

Why I like it:

Well folks I made it. It's been one year since I made this blog and I told myself that if I did, there would be a post of the Japandroid's album Post-Nothing written. If you look at my blog's title, I'm sure you can make the connection now. Essentially I took this idea from a Podcast called Celebration Rock who used the same Japandoid's titled album as their inspiration for the Podcast title. It thought well that's pretty neat and copied the idea!

To get to the actual band and album though. There is a reason I used Post-Nothing as my blog inspired title and that's because it's one of my top albums of all time. I will admit that when Japandroids first became famous I brushed them off. This is because at the time I had a distaste for critical music platforms like Pitchfork and dismissed most of those bands they reviewed (what a youthful ignorant thing to do). To give quick props, it is so neat how the Japandroids were made famous over night from one Pitchfork review. Man what a cool underdog story because they where going to call it quits until that recognition was posted online.

Anyways back to my thoughts on Japandroids, I finally came around to the band when Near The Wild Heart of Life came out in 2017 and decided to get my head out of my butt and look into the rest of their discography.

When I did give Post-Nothing an attentive listen, I was absolutely sold on the first spin. The earnest energy and live in the moment mentality was infectious. It brought me right back to my university days of having all-nighters with friends and only worrying about boys (for myself). Then you get the cold splash of reality the next day that these days are not infinite and things will end eventually. God what an emotional sucker punch, and I frikin love it. Even to this day, when I am far removed from youthful times, it reminds me to enjoy those moments with friends and family and be immersed in it fully. Because like the Japandroids say- "Stay sick together/ Be crazy forever".
