Tilly's Mixtape 8- Mixtapes are still cool!

Heyo friends! This installment of Tilly's mixtape series I've decided to go with a mixtape with songs about-wait for it, it's really deep-mixtapes! I feel like in our current age of playlists, the art of the mixtape is lost. Mixtapes were an intentional message to the listener, where you may be trying to woe that crush or become best friends with that cool person you want impress.

The order of the songs were important because it's telling a story of how you feel through the lyrics and melodies and creates an carefully curated atmosphere. Then you would meticulously write out the artists and song titles on the tape or CD, with artwork included if you were feeling like going that extra mile (see my pictures above of this attempt). Then you would send (or share) the physical product and pray to heck that the receiving person likes it. I think the effort of creating that physical contextual item, in itself, was important because it showed the effort and time someone is willing to put towards that person. Sorta like writing and mailing a physical letter, before mixtapes were a thing.

These songs that I've assembled for you reader, are songs about mixtapes, or bands that have named themselves about this subject matter. I've tried to treat it like one would a real mixtape, with the artwork and bad penmanship all done by yours truly, and the order of songs have a flow to them, that is intended to be played that way. I've also included two links to some stellar podcasts that describe the art of the mixtape pretty well.

I'm going to also challenge you to something, yep that's right homework sucker, create a mixtape for someone that's special to you (through a playlist is ok because creating a physical product is not as easy today) and see what happens. I think someone knowing that you thought of them will make their day :)
