Modern Baseball-You're Gonna Miss It All (2014)

Why I like it:

Modern Baseball (also MOBO to some) is a DIY band with a dedicated cult following, even though they are now on a hiatus and likely to not return. I would be included as one of these long-term fans and will explain why they are worthy of the praise.

First their lyrics generally involve clever ways of showcasing the ways they are trying, and sometimes failing, to be young adults. Here's an example: "Sweeping floors and folding napkins/Praying something cool will happen/ The sun explodes, we die/ The world ends". It's examples like this that make them relatable. I can recount the times I had a boring monotonous service job, wishing anything would happen.

Here's another, ever say a lame line to someone you are interested in like: "I was wondering if, maybe, you wanted to hang out tonight/ We could make dinner or something"? Yeppppp been there too!

Then you have the dynamics of the band. The two lead singers, Jake and Bren, take turns singing and writing song lyrics. They each have their own way of writing a song, that is unique and keeps the album interesting, but somehow make it all flow together brilliantly. The whole band is great at their instruments and each song has something that will catch your ear.

I think the best example of all the things mentioned above is on Modern Baseball's second full release You're Gonna Miss It All, that you really shouldn't miss (see what I did there). It also has my favorite Modern Baseball song "Two Good Things", which me and my partner will belt out in the car whenever it comes on.

So come along on the fun journey MOBO will take you on. You will laugh, cry, and be among friends that are on the ride with you :)
