Momma-Welcome to My Blue Sky (2025)

Why I Like It:

Every summer it seems the debate of what's the song of the summer is brought up by music critics and content creators. Much of the census is that it's less relevant today then say in the 2000s, where more people collectively listened to the radio and top 40 hits. Also some would argue that the song of the summer was a curated thing of the music industry...which is likely true. Regardless, it's still fun to ponder about.

So what makes a good song of the summer objectively? At least to me, it should be something happy and catchy. Maybe with some heart throbbing feelings, as love is usually in the air. It's got to be something you can listen to with the car windows down, as you soak in the sun rays and there's a timeless feel to the endless days. Or something you can listen to with pals as you hang out on the patio on a warm night and a couple brews.

Ok, got your mind in that zen space? Excellent. So my song of the summer is undoubtedly a song by the band Momma called I Want You (Fever). It embodies all the things I've mentioned above and has been my obsession this summer. Not only that song, but the whole album Welcome to My Blue Sky has been on repeated rotation. While at the beach, driving around on a blue sky day, chilling in the backyard with a beer; it's been my soundtrack.

The beautiful guitar riffs, that are both hard hitting and delicate in sound, and whimsical voices of front singers Allegra Weingarten and Etta Friedman keep you in a trance. It can be reflecting on your past loves and the joy of new adventures and bittersweetness of that loss, or a current relationship that is steady and true. Or maybe it's just being in the moment and soaking up the happiness you have today. It can all apply here and that's what makes the album work so well.

So enjoy the last of summer while you can and maybe give Welcome to My Blue Sky a go while you are at it. At least give your own personal song of the summer a last few spins before diving full into pumpkin season :)
