Gulfer-Gulfer (2020)

Why I like it:

Add some math rock, mix in emo, then throw indie rock into the batch. What do you get? Gulfer's self titled album!

I'm not always someone that's into math rock, but when it's done right I love it! It's hard for me to explain what makes it work (luckily there's others that have done so in the links below) but I have been finding myself picking this album up and playing it over and over again.

It never gets boring with the songs and the vocals add a soothing touch that compliments the complex guitar work. There's a cathartic nature to these songs, like the shouting of "you call me up just to talk to me" then immediately followed by the subtle "am I wasting your time?" in the song 'Forget (friendly)'. It's moments like that in the album that gives me the good chills.

I also need to shout out that these boys are from Montreal (Canada) and it's been so cool seeing them get the latest attention among the emo/math rock genre. It looks their hard work of touring the world has been paying off for them :)

If any of this sounds intriguing then I suggest trying Gulfer out!
